About Us

Our Message...

Mental illness can be overcome, but it can't be done alone. People with mental illness need plenty of positive involvement from family, friends, and care providers, as early and consistently as possible. Common misconceptions about mental illness often leave families and individuals in isolation and despair, when what they really need is support and hope to get them through the tough times. We're here to help.

What do we do?

  • Provide information and support for families and individuals to help them regain control of their lives.
  • Advocate on behalf of families and individuals for systems that facilitate and/or promote recovery as opposed to constraining it.
  • Educate the general public and special groups to erase the stigma of mental illness by:
    • Increasing awareness of the realities of living with mental illness
    • Replacing ignorance with compassion.
  • Offer programs for individuals living with mental illness that prevent or reduce social isolation and promote steps toward recovery (meaningful participation in the community).
  • Support research and related efforts that will one day find a cure for schizophrenia and other severely disabling mental illness

Who do we serve?

We serve families and individuals living with schizophrenia and related mental illnesses within the Capital Health Region and in communities in Northern Alberta.
